Wow! She gets my vote. But I doubt if she will move many Republicans to change their minds.

WASHINGTON --" Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, a co-sponsor of the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), now supports same-sex marriage, he announced late last night.

Portman, who was at one point considered a top contender to be Mitt Romney's running mate in the 2012 presidential election, announced his reversal in an interview last night with CNN's Dana Bash. He also wrote about the decision in an op-ed this morning for the Columbia Dispatch.

"I have come to believe that if two people are prepared to make a lifetime commitment to love and care for each other in good times and in bad, the government shouldn't deny them the opportunity to get married," he said.

Portman said his evolution on the subject began in 2011 when his son, Will, then a freshman at Yale University, told his parents he was gay."

Then there's guys like Dick Cheney, who has a Lesbian dauyghter, whose minds will never change.

Yeah, having a son or daughter who is gay does tend to make one look at things a little more objectively.
I can personally attest to that. My "transition" happened about 35 years ago.

Hardly anyone is not touched personally by the LGBT community. Only those idealogues living in the past choose to ignore it & impose their beliefs on others out of paranoid fear that it somehow threatens their life.

I just simply don't see anything negative to two gay people getting married. It has no impact on anyone else and provides important legal protections to the couple. So far as I know, no government entity is trying to infringe on any religion's rights by demanding all churches must provide religious weddings to all comers. Churches should not be trying to dictate who can marry who outside of their own congregations or religion.

You would think. Much of life is if you apply the same standards to others that you apply to yourself. Unless you're a catholic priest. Then it gets a bit sticky.

Ran into one of my old neighbors yesterday. She told me she hates Obama because he wants to let gays marry and she doesn't want to see them getting passionate with each other in public. I shocked her by saying that I didn't care for seeing that behavior amongst straight people in public. I'm not really that big a prude but some people really need to get a room somewhere.
