The purpose of the Second Amendment is to preserve the military power of the people so that they will, in the last resort, have effective final recourse to arms and to the God of Hosts in the face of tyranny. The attempt to disarm the people on April 19, 1775 was the spark of open conflict in the American Revolution. That vile attempt was an act of war, and the American people fought back in justified, righteous self-defense of their natural rights. Any such order today would also be an act of war against the American people, and thus an act of treason. We will not make war on our own people..
Nor will we assist, or support any such attempt to disarm the people by other government entities, either state or federal. The fate of unborn millions will now depend, under God, on the Courage and Conduct of this Army -- and this Marine Corps, This Air Force, This Navy and the National Guard and police units of these sovereign states.
“The time is now near at hand which must probably determine, whether Americans are to be, Freemen, or Slaves; whether they are to have any property they can call their own; whether their Houses, and Farms, are to be pillaged and destroyed, and they consigned to a State of Wretchedness from which no human efforts will probably deliver them. The fate of unborn Millions will now depend, under God, on the Courage and Conduct of this army†-- Gen. George Washington, to his troops before the battle of Long Island

As far as I learned - UP TO NOW - (but I remain opened to any other conclusion with the exception of fighting against the the occupancy by the United Kingdom) of your statement:
"The purpose of the Second Amendment is to preserve the military power of the people so that they will, in the last resort, have effective final recourse to arms and to the God of Hosts in the face of tyranny. "
The exception I pointed out is because NOWADAYS the tyranny of it is obviously OBSOLETE.
Therefore, as far as I understood the THEN goal was to fight the tyranny and in no way was the intention any other.
Thenafter, this amendment has been kept in force in order to allow self-protection against theives and other criminals in view of the many hours needed to call Authorities for protection which was reaching the properties many hours - if not days - after the crime.
Communications and transportations were obviously FAR TOO slow, distances were often very long between a property owner and his most immediate neighbor: in the late 1770s New York, per example had LESS than 20,000 inhabitants and calling for help demanded quite a long time, if ever possible. Such slow communications were the main reason for keeping active Amendment #2 after the War.
Nowadays, no one fears any invading foreign power. Disarming people intent(S) was often slavory related as people did not consider black skinned people as human beings. I doubt this "excuse" remains valid. Any way it should be obsolete as these people practice our Judeo-Christian civilization.
We are not any more in such racism - some extreme racists excepted who want to support the idea of the white skinned supremacy and did not yet understood that a Human being is a humnan being.
War crimes have been often initiated by such "dumb" people as Nazis were.
I appreciate in front your time for providing any supporting statement as mentioned here above.
Thank you.
;-)
However, I give you CREDIT FOR YOUR HONESTY and thank you for it.
You are quite lucky, BTW, for less than that in any other country ... but United Kingdom ... and still ... spreading such nonsense could cost you up to 6 months in prison and up to $ 10,000 fine. Excluding China ... of course.
You can refer to countries like Argentina, Chile, etc.: some decades ago one could pay much less with his life.
Common Sense sold 500,000 copies in its first year after publication, which is extraordinary , considering that there were only about two and a half million people living in all of the 13 colonies at that time. Thomas Paine donated all the royalties to George Washington's Continental Army.
He wrote, "Society in every state is a blessing, but government even in its best state is but a necessary evil."
The small American government provided few services and could not maintain an army at the end of the war and depended on the maintenance of state militias to ensure order in the new states and to defend against foreign aggression. This was the original intention of the 2nd Amendment. George Washington had to form a temporary army made of several state militias to suppress the Whiskey Rebellion.
It would be so nice to be able to kill some kids stating that gun owners are not accountable for it.
Or to kill any enslaved people mainly if they don't share our religions or point of view.
Maybe Sandy should suggest some new amendment disarming police but not common citizens or stating that any killing gun should be sent to prison on behalf of the owner: it would be far cheaper than feeding and guarding prisoners. On top of it, please notice that this would require much less storing space. Not even health care concerns. About 2 billions saved per year.
And the coffin industry could help fighting joblessness.
Sorry for being caustic and ironic: some thinking are so sad that we ought to laugh a bit!
No one can take care of a problem refusing to first of all be watching the consequences.
We have not the means to remain superficial any more. The society is sick and we hjave to know how come and try to then help.
Psychologically speaking a weapon is a penis and shows the need to fill some lack of something to show, self confidence, power. It shows a dependency.
The excuse to be able to protect oneself is quite a fake one as, most often, even trained people, is unable to grab the gun on time when threatened and the sole movement showing intent to grab it could be mortal.
This drives me to believe that if people feel the need of a gun presently is because the social situation is so tough that they already lost confidence in any economic recovery, any recovery of their past, which is of course impossible.
Having a registration providing them accountability may help to raise their self confidence as responsibility often does.
Are you a coffin-maker?
2. It's well-known that any gun is a male symbol ... but not so much a good sex-toy.
3. I never called for any assassination, not even of the President. Would you mind note that ... we are not friends, please? I would hate myself to be.
A colleague I have done business with for over 38 years was shot and killed last Saturday. He had a gun and was being escorted by a professional bodyguard who also was armed. If your attacker knows you have a gun, the gun will be useless to you.
Usually, they wait until both your hands are occupied. In one case, they plugged up the exhaust of a police woman's vehicle that was parked, then simply waited for her to get back in, close the door and attempt to start the car. So now one hand is holding the steering wheel and another is turning the ignition key when they appear at her window with their guns pointing at her.
In another case, they waited until the victim was opening his padlocked gate. One hand held the padlock and the other was turning the key in the lock when they pounced.
Pleeeeaaaasssseee......
Greater gun access will increase mistakes, accidents, the use of extraoridnary physical threat to end disputes, as well as increase the misjudgment of benign situations for dangerous ones.
Greater gun access will increase the chances of citizens turning into sudden and unexpected criminals--by using firearms to resolve volatile disputes.
And, meanwhile, regardless, criminals and career criminals will continue to cause murderous trouble on Chicago's south side....
YEP.... That's about the skinny of it, sir... I would advise you to recheck your info sources and/or find yourself some credible ones?.... I've linked a few for ya to start with, in another's comment thread .... HERE
And about Chicago... It's definantely earning it's name of Murder city USA... By your logic, it's strange that the more gun restrictions, the more deadly crime.. That's the way it always goes..... Last year more Americans died from gunfire in the Windy City than in Afghanistan!
Post a sign that says "gun-free zone" and people come and shoot folks there - ie schools and theaters.
